Mt. Adams District Collaboration Group Field Trip (WESTSIDE),  August 20th, 2009

  

0830 -1100  Bear Creek Planning Area – View the planning area and look at potential oak/grassland restoration and young stand/second growth density reduction opportunities.  View and discuss potential hazardous fuels reduction areas within the watershed.  

   Stop #1 – Bear Creek Sub-Division (6808 rd) – Discuss current and future CWPP plans to    reduce fire danger on private land.

  

   Stop #2 – Oak Restoration (6808 rd) – View/discuss Oregon white oak restoration    opportunities within the planning area.

  

   Stop #3 – Dense second growth stand (6808 rd) – View/discuss thinning opportunities of    a 40 year old stand.

  

   Stop #4 – Triangle Pass (6808 rd) – Discuss potential hazardous fuels reduction areas    within the watershed.

  

Lunch stop: Trip report by Paul S. regarding GPAG visit to the Central Coast District of the Siuslaw National Forest.

  

115 - 215  Dry Creek Stewardship Sale (64-201 rd) – View the variable density thinning sale (50% logged).  Discuss different management objectives between Matrix and Late Successional Reserve lands.  Travel through dense second growth stands (40-55 years old) available for future density reduction opportunities.

  

245 - 345 – Trout Creek Restoration  – View/discuss fish enhancement projects in the Wind River Watershed (Trout Creek).  

  

415 - 445 - Hemlock Dam (Optional) – View site and the work progress of the 1930's Hemlock Dam removal/restoration.
